About the role
- Senior Software Developer focusing on GraphQL Federation architecture for fintech company Wealthsimple. Collaborating with teams to enhance API performance and mentorship of junior developers.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to our GraphQL Federation migration, working with GraphQL Mesh and Hive Gateway to move services from schema stitching to a fully federated supergraph
- Build and improve automation tooling, including AI-assisted migration scripts, that accelerates schema transformations
- Partner with backend teams to help them adopt federation patterns and resolve technical blockers
- Improve gateway performance and observability, contributing to our shared GraphQL libraries
- Create documentation and share knowledge that helps product teams adopt patterns without needing specialized expertise
- Mentor junior team members and participate in code reviews that raise the bar for API quality
Requirements
- Strong experience with GraphQL, including schema design and performance considerations
- Familiarity in API design patterns across REST and GraphQL, with the ability to provide direction on how internal and client-facing APIs should evolve, what standards to adopt, and when to break from them
- A track record of delivering technical work that spans multiple services, with the ability to coordinate dependencies and maintain momentum
- Solid software development fundamentals, with experience building and maintaining production systems. Experience with Ruby or Node.js is a plus
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach—you bring people along through documentation and genuine partnership
- A pragmatic approach to technical decisions, balancing ideal solutions with shipping impact.
