About the role

  • Proposal Mechanical Engineer responsible for preparing technical and commercial proposals for hydroelectric turbines. Collaborating with the team to ensure complete and optimized proposals for client specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical and commercial proposals generally in response to a client’s Request for Proposals
  • Ensure that our turbine technical proposal is complete
  • Work closely with other specialists on our team for various items
  • Identify the challenges and technical requirements as per customer specifications and company design practices
  • Overall technical proposal inclusive of related supply, logistics, engineering and QA costs, and preparing supporting technical documentation
  • Establish the supply plan with the support of the Cost Estimator
  • Establish the project schedule with the support of Scheduler
  • Preliminary design of turbine components to use for the proposal
  • Preparation of RFQ packages for various turbine components and site services
  • Negotiation/clarification with key vendors/subcontractors together with the Cost Estimator
  • Provide key inputs to the development of a winning strategy for the technical offer
  • Lead and challenge the assigned engineering resources that will perform the turbine design for the proposal
  • Lead technical negotiations with the client in support of the proposal and ensure proper documentation

Requirements

  • Fluency in French & English languages – mandatory
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of hydroelectric power plants (mainly turbine)
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of hydro-mechanical projects. Commercial knowledge is an asset
  • Strong design experience (hydroelectric turbine design experience an asset)
  • Experience in assembling hydroelectric turbine units an asset
  • Project Management skills – ability to handle multiple complex tasks daily
  • Effective communication skills (oral & written) in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Proven leadership ability within a team context
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative & creativity.
