About the role

  • Payroll Analyst managing complex payroll processes in a hybrid setting for a fire protection company. Ensuring accuracy in payroll operations and compliance with employment standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process weekly payroll for union, non-union, hourly, and salaried employees.
  • Ensure all payroll data files are complete, accurate, approved, and transmitted to the payroll service provider on time.
  • Review and verify approved timesheets and other payroll input documents for accuracy.
  • Track, process, and maintain garnishments and other special payroll deductions.
  • Administer the issuance of T4s, ROEs, T2200s, and other payroll-related reports as required.
  • Ensure employees are paid accurately and in compliance with all applicable regulations and timelines.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to maintain accurate and up-to-date employee and payroll records.
  • Assist with year-end payroll reporting and the filing of annual returns with federal and provincial governments.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively to meet strict payroll deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and payroll information at all times.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to coordinate responsibilities and ensure critical deadlines are achieved.

Requirements

  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation or currently working toward certification is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and Employment Standards across Canada.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Minimum three years of payroll experience, preferably in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience with unionized payroll environments and complex payroll processing is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to manage tight payroll deadlines with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent numeracy skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
