About the role

  • NAM Payroll Tax Specialist managing high-volume US and Canadian employment tax compliance. Supporting payroll operations, audits, vendor teams, and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operational logistics for a payroll tax function supporting 23,000+ employees across 30 company entities
  • Stabilize operations in a high-demand environment through decision-making, risk-based prioritization, and streamlined execution
  • Oversee implementation of employment tax compliance activities within People Operations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment tax regulations through audit controls in the payroll platform and integrations
  • Manage and resolve employee inquiries and inquiries from taxing authorities
  • Partner with tax, payroll, and compliance stakeholders on employment tax audits and settlements
  • Develop and implement best practices for employment tax compliance activities across the region
  • Provide operational guidance and support to payroll vendor teams, including training on pay input parameters
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, HR, and other internal functions
  • Design, implement, and track key metrics for operational health, risk, and compliance performance
  • Identify and drive continuous process improvements using LEAN methodology and other efficiency frameworks
  • Maintain accuracy, timeliness, and quality in compliance with legal and tax policy requirements

Requirements

  • At least 5+ years of experience in employment tax compliance in Canada and the USA
  • Significant prior professional work experience with demonstrated understanding of employment tax processes, regulatory compliance and/or an Operations/Service-oriented environment
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written
  • Strong knowledge of employment tax regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in HR systems such as Workday and related technologies
  • Payroll Certification is desired
  • Experience working with United States and Canada employment tax is desired
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to changing business requirements and regulatory environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing across all levels within the organization
