About the role

  • Payroll Manager responsible for establishing efficient payroll department functions at The Universal Group. Leading payroll processes and ensuring compliance while managing a growing team in finance.

Responsibilities

  • Strengthen controls of payroll processes, including reviewing and signing off on entity-based biweekly reasonability tests.
  • Maintain hourly controls to detect data input and system errors, building additional controls as needed.
  • Lead ADP implementation project, business initiatives, and other ad hoc tasks as required.
  • Establish and monitor team performance by developing goals, assigning accountabilities, and reporting on performance.
  • Identify opportunities within the organization to strengthen the business and improve operational systems, processes, and policies.
  • Deliver and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in payroll and accounting, with a demonstrated career progression into leadership roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) and Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designations are considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in banking and treasury functions.
  • Proven track record in accounting-related projects.
  • Familiarity with Shared Services structure and experience with high-volume invoicing.
  • Experience in ADP is a must.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in business software applications.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks is considered a major asset.
