Veterinary Technologist performing husbandry and veterinary care at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Responsible for animal management, health checks, and compliance with care standards.
Responsibilities
Perform animal management and animal health checks
Gather appropriate samples for diagnostic purposes e.g. blood, urine, feces, swabs
Administer treatments as required under veterinary supervision
Issue sick reports as required
Operate specialized containment equipment such as biological safety cabinets, laminar flow racks, ventilated racks and autoclaves
Perform routine laboratory health surveillance e.g. pinworm check, fecal examination, blood sampling
Implement disease control requirements including treatment, signage, protective clothing as advised by veterinary or managerial staff
Wear personal protective equipment as appropriate
May perform the duties of a Laboratory Animal Technician III
Other related duties as required
Requirements
University degree in a related field
Registered Laboratory Animal Technician with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science and/or completion of a recognized Veterinary Technology Diploma
One year of related experience
Physically capable of performing the required duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs
No history of animal-related allergies
Willing to participate in University Health and Safety Program
Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
Ability to take direction and work independently
Possession of a Provincial Class 'G' Drivers license may be required
Availability to work weekends and holidays as required
