About the role

  • Payroll Specialist ensuring smooth payroll operations for Canadian and US entities at Wealthsimple. Managing end-to-end payroll processes and compliance for employee compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end semi-monthly payroll process for our Canadian and US entities
  • Contribute to the successful completion of the full year-end reporting cycle (T4s, RL-1s, W-2s, T2200s)
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource for employees. You’ll answer questions regarding pay statements, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions
  • Help manage statutory requirements, including provincial/state tax filings, EHT, Workers’ Comp, and relevant US state filings as needed
  • Perform regular audits of payroll data to maintain our high standards for compliance and internal controls

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of full-cycle multi-province Canadian experience, including Quebec (experience with US payroll would be an asset)
  • Significant hands-on experience with Workday Payroll is a must
  • You enjoy working in a small, tight-knit team where knowledge-sharing and collaboration are the norms
  • You love a good reconciliation and have a knack for spotting patterns or errors in large datasets
  • You understand how standard benefit plans (RRSPs, 401ks, Health/Dental) work from a payroll perspective and can explain taxable benefits to employees with ease
  • You can translate complex tax or payroll concepts into simple terms
