About the role

  • Payroll Specialist managing payroll administration and employee benefits for Yara Belle Plaine. Collaborating with leadership to maintain high standards of data integrity and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely administration of payroll, benefits, and related employee data, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Partners with leadership and stakeholders to support workforce planning, reporting, and HR processes while maintaining high standards of data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll for all employees of Yara Belle Plaine and Yara Canada, including payroll journal entries and year-end processes.
  • Maintain and update employee personal, payroll, benefits, and attendance information in the payroll system (ADP), ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage and maintain the Yara PeoplePath database and personnel files, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Administer employee benefits programs in collaboration with providers and employees, serving as a key point of contact for inquiries and updates.
  • Coordinate and deliver employee onboarding, including scheduling sessions and preparing required documentation.
  • Compile, analyze, and report on HR and payroll data to support decision-making, including turnover metrics, headcount reporting, payroll analysis, and ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Manage the annual salary budget process, maintaining the budget tool and partnering with leadership to input and update position changes.
  • Administer modified work schedules and averaging permits in compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Compile modified work schedules to comply with government regulations, including EDO/turnarounds and shift schedules.
  • Reconcile and prepare documentation and remittances for benefits providers and regulatory agencies, including Sun Life, Canada Life, PEPP, Sutton, WSIB, CNESST, Revenu Québec, Employer Health Tax (EHT), and others as required.
  • Administer contracts related to employee loan programs.
  • Maintain wage and salary schedules and co-administer the Concur Employee Expense program.
  • Provide backup support to the People & Culture Specialist and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Provide support to the People & Culture Manager as needed, contributing to departmental initiatives and projects.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline is preferred
  • Relevant Payroll certification is an asset
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in payroll, human resources, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll in a high-volume, multi-jurisdictional environment working with payroll systems (e.g., ADP) and HRIS platforms
  • Demonstrated experience supporting benefits administration and regulatory compliance
  • Strong knowledge of Employment Standards, CRA requirements, and applicable federal and provincial payroll legislation
  • Position requires extensive computer/software knowledge and experience. Software - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, SAP, ADP
