About the role

  • People & Culture Manager partnering with leaders on workforce strategy, employee relations, and organizational effectiveness. Supporting Bird’s Canadian commercial construction operations from its Richmond office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement people strategies aligned with business plans for the commercial construction group
  • Act as a strategic partner to assigned business leaders by anticipating workforce needs and providing data-driven insights
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on talent, organizational effectiveness, culture, and workforce planning
  • Coach leaders on performance management, employee relations, workforce planning, talent development, and leadership effectiveness
  • Consult with leaders on compensation matters, including salary recommendations, job evaluation, in-range adjustments, and promotions
  • Influence decision-making using data, trends, and workforce insights
  • Liaise with the Center of Excellence People & Culture Team to maintain strategic alignment
  • Build rapport with employees, promote trust and open communication, and support human resources processes and programs
  • Monitor employee morale and identify engagement issues
  • Support leaders in building high-performing, diverse, and engaged teams
  • Maintain knowledge of federal and provincial laws and regulations and communicate applicable requirements to managers and employees
  • Participate in employee-relations issue resolution and conduct workplace investigations when required
  • Support consistent delivery of People & Culture principles, practices, and policies
  • Analyze, investigate, and support resolution of business and people issues
  • Lead succession planning, talent reviews, and internal mobility discussions
  • Provide guidance on policy interpretation, respectful workplace concerns, and workplace conflict
  • Support resolution of challenging employee-relations issues with the Senior Manager, People & Culture
  • Understand day-to-day site operations to align People & Culture support with operational needs
  • Liaise with the business and functional HR teams to inform People & Culture strategy, program design, and planning
  • Serve as a member of the District Operational Leadership team

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or related degree
  • 10+ years working in a business partner capacity
  • Experience dealing with sensitive, complex, and highly confidential employee situations, including harassment, performance management, salary review, and recommendations
  • Fluent knowledge of Federal and Provincial laws and legislation as it applies to employee-related situations
  • Ability to travel sites as needed (10% of the time)
  • Well-developed organizational capability and change management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish credibility and trust with executives, employees, and People & Culture professionals
  • Exceptional presentation skills; experienced public speaker and facilitator
  • Understanding of workforce-related federal and provincial employment laws and regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet unpredictable time demands in a dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving, accuracy, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Experience with people metrics and analytics
  • CPHR designation is an asset
