About the role

  • Coordinator, Diversity and Inclusion at McCarthy Tétrault, a Canadian law firm. Responsible for delivering Inclusion programming and managing community partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering on Inclusion programming, managing community partnerships and our corporate giving program.
  • Working closely with Clients & Markets to support, plan, and execute client facing diversity and inclusion events, and initiatives.
  • Coordinating and assisting with communications and logistics for internal and external events, celebrations and campaigns.
  • Supporting the planning, and execution of programs and policies that increase the Firm’s overall EDI capacity, including those that eliminate structural barriers, satisfy external legal, certification or other requirements, advance EDI best practices, and drive accountability for Inclusion Now throughout the Firm.
  • Supporting Specialist, PR and HR with the implementation of student, lawyer and staff programming to deepen their experience of the Firm, and inclusion broadly.
  • Working closely with the PR team to support engaging student programming, and opportunities to elevate the Inclusion Now brand across law schools.
  • Fostering relationships with students and Firm members involved in Inclusion Now by planning social activities and opportunities to foster meaningful connections.
  • Working closely with the Manager and Specialist to build relationships with student affinity groups and incoming summer and articling students by helping to organize socials and events for students.
  • Internal and external education program support.
  • Developing initial internal and external communications for the Inclusion Now Office (i.e. days of significance, internal leadership emails, MT Community, Inclusion Now Espresso Content, speaking remarks for leadership, lawyers, and staff).
  • Coordinating and assisting with communications and logistics for internal and external communications (i.e social media, firm-wide emails, event invitations).
  • Tracking Action Group engagement by collecting data on participation, inclusion and impact of Action Groups.
  • Onboarding Action Group Chairs and new members with the Inclusion Now and Action Group strategy.
  • Supporting Action Group meetings and discussions.
  • Coordinating and assisting with communications and logistics for Inclusion Now Council and Action Groups.
  • Working closely with the Inclusion Now Specialist and Manager to help administer and track community partnership agreements.
  • Attending meetings with community partners to track impact and progress of partnerships.
  • Gaining first-hand knowledge of the work of the Inclusion and Community Engagement team, and the Firm’s priorities, by attending meetings, monitoring and developing correspondence.
  • Coordinating and assisting with communications and logistics for the development and execution of pro bono programs, sponsorships and sponsorship requests.
  • Supporting Senior Director in drafting content for client RFP responses, client questionnaires, ongoing and ad hoc reporting requests, including demographic data.
  • Coordinating and assisting with communications and logistics for the compilation of various reporting requirements.
  • Assisting Specialist and Manager in managing all Inclusion Now related assets and all for maintaining Inclusion Now data.
  • Supporting the administration and operations of the Inclusion Now Office.
  • Using existing and new technology tools to drive efficiency and track action items.
  • Helping to manage the team budget including tracking sponsorships and expenses.
  • Collecting, reviewing and responding to Community donation requests, including liaising with finance teams to ensure payment is completed.
  • Working on development of Reconciliation Action Plan, including collaboration with external vendors and Senior Strategic Advisor of Indigenous Affairs.
  • Supporting Pro Bono project administration, including collaboration with Pro Bono teams for vetting, project distribution and tracking.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-3 years’ work experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in any/all of the following areas would be an asset: Diversity and inclusion initiatives and/or corporate social responsibility; Communications, marketing and/or promoting a professional brand via a variety of social media channels; Project management tools and methodologies; Legal or professional services environment.
  • Bilingualism (English-French), written and verbal, would be an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and PDF editing software (i.e. Adobe Acrobat Pro).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write in cogent, concise business language and communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization.
  • An energetic self-starter, with a proactive and positive approach to all activities.
  • Demonstrated “can do” attitude to ensure tasks and activities are managed with the utmost efficiency and effectiveness.
