About the role

  • Construction business development manager expanding an established Canadian construction organization’s Ontario presence. Building developer relationships and converting market intelligence into awarded project opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new business opportunities across the Ontario construction market
  • Identify prospective clients, upcoming developments and potential project opportunities
  • Build long-term relationships with developers, owners, consultants and other construction decision-makers
  • Use and expand an existing network within the Ontario real estate and construction community
  • Monitor the market for potential projects before they formally come to market
  • Gather intelligence on client priorities, competitors, market activity and upcoming developments
  • Work with leadership, preconstruction, estimating, operations and marketing teams to evaluate and position opportunities
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, interviews and activities that advance opportunities toward award
  • Contribute commercial and relationship intelligence to proposal and pursuit planning
  • Attend selected industry events and networking functions as a representative of the organization
  • Maintain current opportunity and relationship information and provide leadership with visibility into prospects, leads and pipeline

Requirements

  • Approximately 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in business development, client development, construction, commercial real estate, development, architecture, engineering or a closely related field
  • Strong understanding of how construction projects are sourced, pursued and awarded
  • Existing relationships within the Ontario development, real estate or construction community
  • Evidence of creating new client relationships and converting them into measurable business
  • Ability to deal with senior decision-makers, owners, developers, consultants and other industry stakeholders
  • Understanding of competitive procurement and how construction opportunities progress from early discussion through qualification, proposal and award
  • Strong commercial instincts and ability to prioritize opportunities
  • Confident communication and presentation skills
  • Self-directed approach, organization and persistence to manage long sales cycles and multiple relationships
  • Experience within multi-residential, commercial, hospitality or other private-sector building markets particularly relevant
  • Exposure to institutional, post-secondary or municipal work considered valuable

Benefits

  • Compensation package in addition to the $120,000–$150,000 annual salary
