About the role

  • Senior Business Development Manager supporting McCarthy Tétrault’s Energy Group and priority clients. Developing growth strategies, pitches, market intelligence, and client relationships for a leading Canadian law firm.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Clients & Markets Lead and main point-of-contact for the Energy Group and select Priority Clients
  • Develop and implement integrated marketing and business development plans and go-to-market strategies
  • Identify targets and pursue new mandates for new and existing clients
  • Recommend and execute tactics to increase market profile and build client relationships
  • Develop plans to deepen priority-client relationships and cross-sell practice areas or solutions
  • Analyze energy market, industry, legal, and regulatory intelligence to identify trends and opportunities
  • Develop strategies to help Energy Group lawyers build internal and external market profiles
  • Provide recommendations, guidance, and project management for marketing and business development initiatives
  • Support sponsorships, awards, legal directories, and related initiatives
  • Collaborate on RFPs, proposals, pitches, client presentations, and client reporting
  • Coach lawyers preparing for client presentations
  • Collaborate with Finance and lawyers on timely client value and offerings reports
  • Collaborate with Events and Communications teams
  • Develop annual budgets for the Energy Group
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in business, law, marketing, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience, preferably in a legal or professional services firm
  • Familiarity with or strong interest in the energy sector, including oil and gas, energy transition, natural resources, and associated regulatory landscape, is an asset
  • Strategic, out-of-the-box thinking and ability to proactively devise new growth ideas
  • Strong communication and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and complete tasks systematically and logically
  • Commitment to high-quality deliverables and excellent client service with attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and accommodate rush requests
  • Strong business writing skills
  • Familiarity with project management and process improvement principles
  • Ability to travel to other offices approximately once a month
