About the role

  • Payroll compliance expert helping Remote, a global employment platform, interpret legislation and build scalable compliant payroll products. Advising Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, and Customer Experience teams worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary payroll compliance expert for assigned countries or region
  • Interpret payroll, tax, social security, labour, and employment legislation
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impacts on products, processes, and customers
  • Provide practical and commercially balanced compliance guidance
  • Partner with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to embed compliance into product development
  • Translate legislative requirements into business and product requirements
  • Review product designs and validate system logic, calculations, workflows, and outputs
  • Support product launches and go-live activities
  • Advise stakeholders on complex compliance questions and emerging regulatory developments
  • Support customer-facing teams with high-risk or complex compliance matters
  • Provide guidance for market expansion and new product offerings
  • Conduct compliance assessments and reviews
  • Lead or support regulatory audits and investigations
  • Identify compliance gaps and recommend remediation strategies
  • Monitor legislative developments and communicate changes across the organisation
  • Partner with Product and Operations to implement regulatory changes
  • Create and maintain compliance documentation, rules libraries, and knowledge assets
  • Design repeatable processes and support compliance controls and governance frameworks
  • Contribute to automation and compliance-by-design initiatives
  • Deliver training and enablement programs
  • Mentor Payroll Specialists, Product teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Create documentation and guidance materials that simplify complex legislation

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in payroll, tax, social security, labour, and employment compliance within a country or region
  • Strong understanding of translating legislation into payroll calculations, processes, and product requirements
  • Experience working with technology, product, or operational teams to implement regulatory requirements
  • Ability to translate complex legislation into scalable business processes and system logic
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Stakeholder relationship-building and influencing skills across Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Customer Experience, and Leadership
  • Ability to balance compliance requirements with operational and commercial realities
  • Confident communication and ability to simplify complex regulatory concepts
  • Experience conducting audits, reviews, investigations, or compliance assessments
  • Ability to identify root causes and recommend pragmatic corrective actions
  • Strong judgement when managing risk and ambiguity
  • Curiosity, proactivity, continuous learning, and comfort in a fast-paced evolving environment
