About the role

  • Integrated communications account director leading PR, social, and digital campaigns for Canadian PR agency APEX Public Relations. Managing client growth, retention, teams, and new business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide strategic oversight and overall project management across multiple accounts, focusing on growth and client retention
  • Support the EVP as the day-to-day strategic lead for client initiatives, providing high-level counsel and developing long-term plans aligned with client business goals
  • Plan, develop, and oversee integrated communications strategies across PR, social, and digital platforms
  • Foster and maintain strong client relationships and proactively address issues
  • Lead project plans, strategies, and new business pitches
  • Guide press materials, media pitches, events, digital content, and storytelling efforts
  • Develop and oversee client onboarding processes
  • Implement client retention programs, including check-ins, gifting, and satisfaction surveys
  • Explore innovative ways to deliver client value and stay ahead of industry trends
  • Lead and mentor account teams and promote high performance and continuous improvement
  • Oversee direct-report performance and professional development
  • Plan and allocate resources across accounts with the VP and department heads
  • Identify revenue-growth opportunities through upselling and new business
  • Participate in developing and presenting new business proposals and pitches
  • Collaborate on agency market positioning, industry events, networking, and award submissions
  • Attend and oversee media events, press trips, and other client-related activities, including after-hours as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum 8–10 years of agency experience with a demonstrated track record of success managing key client relationships and driving business growth
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams through collaboration, mentorship, and results-driven performance
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to develop and execute comprehensive plans that drive client success
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with high EQ
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of public relations and communications, including media relations, creator and influencer program management, digital strategies, and industry trends
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to summarize complex information
  • Ability to ensure client-facing materials and communications are error-free and meet agency standards
  • Previous agency experience
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Comfortable working in an ever-changing, fast-paced, accelerated-growth environment
